Elmer Ray Payne, 69, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, June 15, 2013 at his home.
He was born in Springfield, Illinois March 8, 1944, to the late Delbert and Hazel (Miller) Payne Sr. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Payne Jr.
On March 7, 1964, Elmer married the former Georgia Hanson in Russells Point, Ohio and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Ricky (Theresa) Payne of Bellefontaine and Penny Cook of Lima, Ohio; grandchildren, Tyler Payne, Michael Ray Allen Payne, Katelyn (CJ) Cook, Brittney (fiancé Mikey Jones) Cook, Monica (Adam) Hannah and Falon (Travis) Cooperrider; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Cooperrider; a brother, Arthur W. Payne of New Hampshire, Ohio; a sister, Beulah Shockey of Milford Center, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elmer was a truck driver for Roundy’s in Lima for 28 plus years and attended the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point. He was a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge and in his spare time, Elmer loved to junk. To his friends at Kamp-A-Lott, “being the reporter he was – you will have to find a new reporter.” Elmer dearly loved his family and will be missed by all.
Calling hours will be held at the Smith-Eichholtz Funeral Home in Lakeview, Ohio Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. Fr. Patrick Sheridan will conduct a funeral mass Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11 A.M. at the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point. Interment will be at a later date at the Rea Cemetery in Bloomfield Township in Logan County Ohio.
