Emery Louis “Louie” Meredith, age 98, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He was born March 11, 1916 in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Emery A. and Hazel (Hullinger) Meredith.
On June 4, 1938, he married the former Nan Elizabeth Harnish and after seventy one years of marriage, she preceded him in death May 22, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a son, George E. and a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Meredith.
Louie was employed twenty eight years with Equity Dairy in Bellefontaine where he was a cheese maker. Following the closing of Equity, he went to work with Tudor Electric in Bellefontaine. He then worked part-time at Tree Links Golf Course until his retirement. While working at Tree Links, he was named “Employee of the Year” in 1996. In his earlier years he was a cab driver for Bellefontaine where you could go anywhere for 10 cents.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Cole of Bellefontaine; grandsons, Robert Meredith, Scott (Lisa) Meredith, Todd (Sandy) Meredith, Brent (Kelly) Meredith, and Shawn (Heather) Cole; thirteen grandchildren; a brother, Fred K. (Ruth) Meredith; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Meredith of Perrysburg, Ohio and two nieces and one nephew.
Louie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine. He was a sixty year member of the Bellefontaine Free & Accepted Masons where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Commandry Drill Team. He was also member of the Bowling Association for seventy years, and was inducted in 1985 to the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a charter member of the Cherokee Hills Golf Club and a member of the Elks, the Logan County YMCA and volunteered at Logan Acres.
Pastor Ed Beale will officiate the 11 A.M. funeral service Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 4 to 7 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
