Emma Belle Smith, 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. She was born February 1, 1918, the daughter of the late Glenn W. and Mildred (Diener) Joslin.
On September 10, 1938, she married Richard F. Smith at the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death June 19, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin Joslin, her sister, Maxine Uhrig, and her son-in-law, Richard Townsend.
She is survived by her son, R. Michael “Mike” (Katie) Smith of Sarasota, Florida; two daughters, Ruth Ellen “Cookie” Townsend of Marblehead, Ohio, and Kathy L. (Charles) Yule of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, Laurie Rosenburg, Todd (Amy) Henry, Christopher (Marcie) Smith and Steven (Erin) Henry; seven great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Emma Belle was the former co-owner of The Insurance Center in Bellefontaine along with her late husband, Richard. She was a long-time member of the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine where she was active. She worked for twenty years as a school cook for Bellefontaine City Schools working at Northeastern Elementary and the High School. She was a member of The Blue Jacket Club as well as the K.O.O.K. Club (Kooks Out Of Kelter). She enjoyed needle work, gardening and spending time with her family.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, with Pastor Cheryl Siegenthaler officiating. Calling hours are Friday, July 2, 2010, from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Philadelphia Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
