Emma Smucker

Emma Lucille Smucker, 97, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2013 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty.

She was born in Elida, Ohio April 26, 1916, to the late Christian B. and Rose (Berry) Breneman, the fourth of ten children.

She married Wilbert Franklin Smucker June 30, 1940 in Elida, and he preceded her in death January 4, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a son, Curtis Smucker in 1945.

Emma is survived by her children, Russ (Linda) Smucker of Zanesville, Ohio, Ron (Kathleen) Smucker of Galion, Ohio, Kendal (Gloria) Smucker of Portland, Oregon, Les (Christina) Smucker of East Liberty, Ohio and Lorene (Mark) Carpenter of Bellefontaine, Ohio; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Clark Breneman of Alger, Ohio; a sister, Ann Meier of Lima, Ohio; sisters-in-laws, Mabel Coblentz of Elida and Ruby Blosser of West Liberty; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dwight Hostetler of West Liberty.

Emma was a 1933 graduate of Gomer High School and was the Salutatorian of the class. She was a faithful member of the Grace Chapel Church in West Liberty, where she taught Sunday School classes for many years. An avid gardener, Emma was a long-time member of the West Liberty Garden Club. She is fondly remembered by many for the small concession stand she managed in connection with Wilbert’s Auction in West Liberty.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 11 A.M. at the Grace Chapel Church in West Liberty with Pastor Josh Gelatt officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty from 6 to 8 P.M. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
