Emmett Richard “Dick” Morris, 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, February 28, 2014 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty, Ohio.
He was born in Bellefontaine February 16, 1922, to the late Emmett A. and Merle (Robinaugh) Morris. Dick married the former Geraldine A. “Gerry” Eleyet January 28, 1945 in Bellefontaine, and she preceded him in death July 25, 1990. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Braden.
Dick is survived by his children, Cindy (Skip) Kipker of Hilliard, Ohio and Mike (Beci) Morris of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Andy (Mira) Kipker, Jenny Kipker and Chad (Nikki) Morris; two great-grandsons, Nathan Kipker and Graham Morris; brothers Dave (Jody) Morris of West Liberty and Robert “Derrell” Morris of Ada, Ohio
Dick was a graduate of Bellefontaine High School. A Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during World War II and was a recipient of the Navy Cross. Dick was an avid photographer and took pictures for many weddings in the Bellefontaine area. He retired in 1982 from Conrail after 40+ years as a yardman, welder and maintenance worker. With his wife Gerry, they traveled abroad including trips to Africa, Egypt, China, New Zealand and London. Dick was a member of the American Legion.
Private family services will be held at a later date with interment at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
