Emory L. Byrd, 87, of Jackson Center, Ohio, passed away at 1:50 P.M. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Ohio.
He was born in Shelby County Ohio June 8, 1925, to the late Roy Andrew and Mary Amanda (Buirley) Byrd. On December 22, 1945, he married his wife of sixty seven years, Doris Ann Lenhart and she survives.
He is also survived by his children, Larry (Victoria) Byrd and Sheila (Dave) Burch, both of Jackson Center; five grandchildren, Alan (Jennifer) Byrd, Penny (Greg) Borchers, Bryan (Keesha) Byrd, Mark (Lindsay) Burch and Emily (Todd) Ratermann; eight great grandchildren, Austin and Jacob Borchers, Audrey and Brooke Ann Byrd, Kyle and Julia Burch, Cole and Jared Ratermann; two sisters, Tootie (Doyle) Elsass and Betty (Vernon) Bowman and a brother, Gary (Kay) Byrd, and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Earl) Helmlinger preceded him in death.
A 1943 graduate of Anna High School, Emory was a truck driver for forty three years and retired from General Highway Central Transport in 1985.
He enjoyed playing cards and eating out with his many friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and attending the activities in which they were involved.
Pastor Kent Hollis will conduct the funeral service Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. Calling hours are Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the church and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio.
The funeral arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center.
