Eric Christopher James Giles, age 31, of DeGraff, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 as the result of an ultralight plane accident near Quincy, Ohio.
Eric was born April 7, 1983 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the son of the late Donald R. Giles, who passed away September 27, 2013, and Audrey (Cook) Giles who survives of Quincy. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William Ralph and Flora Helen Giles and two uncles, Tony Giles and Robert Williams.
He is also survived by his wife, Sally (Stafford) Giles, whom he married June 30, 2008 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; their daughter, Shailyn Sahara Giles at home; two brothers, Charles Matthew “Matt” Giles of Quincy and Joshua Danielle “Josh” Giles of Sidney, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Ann Cook of DeGraff; two uncles, Bill (Cindy) Giles of Lakeview, Ohio and Steve (Deborah) Cook of Quincy; two aunts, Karen Young of DeGraff and Brenda (Bob) Covault of DeGraff; five nieces and nephews, Chelsea, Shelby, and Riley Giles and Danica and Carter Purtee; his mother-in-law, Sarah Stafford of DeGraff and father-in-law, William Fosters Stafford of Mansfield, England.
Eric was a 2002 graduate of Riverside High School in DeGraff, then graduated from Caterpillar heavy equipment training in North Carolina. He was a ‘hands on’ guy who enjoyed tinkering with just about anything including restoring antique tractors with his father. He loved flying, 4-wheeling, boating, fishing and riding his motorcycle. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially his wife and daughter.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff, officiated by Denny Brown. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. Interment will be at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
