Ethel Mae Buchenroth

Ethel Mae Buchenroth, 86, passed away at Logan Acres, surrounded by family, on December 24, 2017. She was born September 13, 1931 to the late Venard V. Hurley and the late Lula Belle Davis Hurley of Bellefontaine, Ohio. Ethel was a 1949 graduate of Huntsville High School and married her high school sweetheart Joe E. Buchenroth on December 11, 1949, who preceded her in death on February 29, 2004. She is survived by five children - Bonnie (Dwight) Hansen of Bellefontaine, Cindy (Jack) Beuschlein and Kerry (Kim) Buchenroth of Lewistown, Susie (Eric) Whetsel of Bellefontaine, and Steve Buchenroth (fiancée Robin Brandewie) of Huntsville, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and great- and great-great nieces and nephews to whom she was affectionately known as Aunt Tommy). She was preceded in death by one son Kris (KT) Buchenroth, one grandchild Dennis Hansen, one great-grandson Landan Harris and two brothers William Wayne Hurley of Jackson Center and Raymond Hurley of Huntsville.

Ethel was active in various organizations throughout her life, including the Logan County Genealogical Society and the Logan County Historical Society, several home demonstration/Family Community Education clubs, Kings Daughters, and Indian Lake Women Who Care.  Ethel was especially proud of her work on the Underground Railroad for the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Societies. She was able to glean and save valuable information on the UGRR. She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren in all endeavors – sports, education, and careers. Ethel loved to travel with her husband and lived for family gatherings. Family was very dear to her. Over the years she was a member at the Hopewell, Huntsville, and Lewistown United Methodist Churches.

Services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311 with Reverend Bryan Meadows officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service and on Thursday, December 28th, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Huntsville Cemetery.

The funeral arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
