Floyd A. Kinney, 81, of Bellefontaine passed away Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2016 at Logan Acres Care Center.

He was born in DeGraff on September 7, 1934 to the late Frederick P. and Hazel R. (Gardner) Kinney. Floyd was also preceded in death by his siblings Francis Huffman, Eugene Kinney and D. Paul Kinney as well as son-in-law John M. Aldo.

A 1952 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Floyd was a veteran of the US Army where he served in the 559th Field Artillery Missile Battalion from 1955 - 1957. While stationed in Germany in 1958, Floyd’s unit was responsible for the launch of the first nuclear-capable guided missile in Europe.

Upon his return to civilian life, he worked a total of 47 total years between Rockwell and HBD Industries, retiring in 2001. Floyd was fond of classical music, as well as New Orlean jazz. In his spare time, Floyd enjoyed woodworking and his scroll saw.but his true passion was bicycling. He enjoyed riding tandem bike with each of his girls and a group of friends known as the Weak End Bikers. Many weekends, Floyd rode more than 100 miles and completed eleven Great Ohio Bicycle Adventures. He was known to many as The Bicycle Man, offering repairs out of his garage for years.

Floyd was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine. Floyd will be remembered as a devoted family man and loyal friend. He shied away from crowds, but never from the opportunity to share a memory and laugh of good times gone by. He taught life lessons through the way he lived and the character he displayed.

Floyd married the former Julia Lee Osborn on August 16, 1958 in the Middleburg Methodist Church and she survives. He is also survived by his girls: Cathleen (Don) Phipps of Bellefontaine, KimberLee (Thomas Reynolds) Kinney of Bellefontaine, Kitrina (Dallas) Jones of Marysville and Kristine (Phillip) Marker of New Knoxville; grandchildren: Heather (Owen) Wolfe, Nathan (Sabrina) Wilson, Erin and Douglas Marker, Kristy (Drew) Gibbs, Jeff (Abby Douglas) Aldo,Todd (April) Aldo, Melissa (Scott) Flager, Teresa (Lance) Alexander; great-grandchildren: Amber (Ryan) Klimt, James Wolfe, Stella Natalee and Grant Lee Wilson, Dallas, Landon and Caden Gibbs, Kayla (Mitchell) Brugger, Maverick, Jayden, Tyler and Madison Aldo, Krista and Jeffery Rutledge, Derek Alexander, Brooke (Brian) Armor; and sister Phyllis Rinehart of Florida.

Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 5-7pm. Pastor H. Kearns will officiate the funeral service on Friday, July 8 at 11am at the funeral home, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the funeral. Burial will be at a later date in Middleburg Cemetery.
