Frances Galloway

Frances E. Galloway, 92, a resident of Green Hills Inn, West Liberty, Ohio, was ushered into the presence of her Lord October 25, 2009 from Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born October 7, 1917, in Bellefontaine, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Clara Ely Sims.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Melvin C. Huber, whom she married on January 26, 1941, in Bellefontaine. He passed away June 24, 1984. On August 3, 1985, she married F. Merrill Galloway in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death July 19, 2004. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Kermit C. Sims and a sister-in-law, Nellie Ruth Tennant Sims.

Surviving are three step-children, Gwendolyn (Stanton) Brown of Tacoma, Washington; F. Merrill (Cathy) Galloway, Jr. of Houston, Texas; and Norman (Susie) Galloway of Lexington, Kentucky; eight step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.

Frances and her first husband jointly owned and operated the Sims and Huber Moving and Storage Company in Bellefontaine. The company was founded by her father, Franks Sims, in Leipsic, Ohio, and was brought to Bellefontaine in 1915. The ownership of the company passed from Mr. Sims to his son-in-law, Melvin Huber, and from Mr. Sims’ daughter, Frances, to his grandson, Dan Sims.

A 1935 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, she was a much loved and faithful member of the Hope Community Church, formerly the First Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, where her parents took her when she was a week old. She served as a Sunday school teacher, leader in the Women’s ministry, choir director, and dedicated worker in activities involving local and worldwide missions. Missionaries who were visiting where always welcome into her home. At the age of 15, she began playing the pipe organ and continued until five years ago. Her music contributed much to the blessing of all.

Her life verse was Psalm 32:8: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.”

Calling hours are Tuesday, October 27, 2009, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Green Hills Foundation Hall in West Liberty.
