Frank Edward Day, 83, of Walnut Creek and formerly of Bellefontaine passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia, Ohio.

He was born December 6, 1931, the son of the late Ned E. and Lela P. (Eggleston) Day Rutherford. On December 5, 1962 in The Hague, Netherlands, he married the former Marcelle Yvonne Monfils and she survives in Walnut Creek.

He is also survived by their three children; Deborah Lynn (Steve) Geboy of Belle Center, Daniel Edward (Melissa) Day of Ocean Springs, MS, and David Robert (Melissa) Day of Columbus, ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, James F. (Lois Ann) Day of Bellefontaine and several nephews, a niece and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Hayes and a step-dad, J. Lowell Rutherford.

Frank served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where he spent time working at the Pentagon. He worked as a dispatcher for the Ohio State Patrol and later as an administrator for the U.S. Department of Foreign Services, working in many overseas embassies before retiring in 1986 from the U.S. Department of State.

He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Moose Lodge of Indian Lake, and enjoyed music, birds, gardening, whistling, and the country life. He was also a proud supporter of The Ohio State University Athletics.

Gene Marine will officiate a funeral service on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine. Visitation will be on Monday, February 9th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery will military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
