Gary Todd Conrad, 44, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, at 12:04 A.M. as the result of an all terrain vehicle accident. He was born June 10, 1965 in Springfield, Ohio, a son of Gary Conrad and Sandy Hayslip.
On October 8, 2005, he married the former Sharlon Rogers, and she survives along with a son, Garrett Conrad, and daughters, Mariah Conrad and Shae Conrad, all at home. Also surviving are his father, Gary, of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Sandy (John) Detwiler of West Liberty; sister, Tracie (Dan) Coates of West Mansfield, Ohio; step-brother, John Detwiler, Jr. of West Liberty; step-sisters, Jill (Andy) Stickley of Urbana, Ohio, and Jennifer (Lee) Pettit, of Fletcher, Ohio; uncles, Raymond “Butch” Hayslip and Terry Lee Hayslip, both of Urbana; several nieces and nephews, Thomas Coates, J.D. & Justin Stickley, Megan Pettit, Emily and Katie Detwiler.
He was a grain elevator manager for Heritage Co-Op in West Liberty, and was President of the Champaign County Cattleman’s Association for the past 4 years. Gary was a 4-H advisor for the past 6 years, an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and loved showing calves with his family and friends. He coached youth softball and baseball, enjoyed farming and being a part of the farming community. He also enjoyed playing all types of sports, especially golf.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Jacob Detwiler, his grandmother, Virginia Hayslip and grandparents, Estle & Maxine Conrad.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 11 A.M.,conducted by Pastor Dick Barrett, at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church in West Liberty. Burial will take place in the Kingscreek Cemetery in Kingscreek, Ohio. Pallbearers for the service will be: Andy Stickley, John Detwiler, Dan Coates, Fred Harlow, Lee Pettit, and Joby Havens. Honorary pallbearers: Garrett Conrad, Steve Buck, John Woodruff, Kenny Konkle, Andy Maurice, Matt Detwiler, David Clapp, Gary Staley, David and Dusty Faulkner, Levi Underwood, and Jim Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Liberty Fire Department, West Liberty EMS and the Champaign County Cattleman’s Association.
The staff of the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty assisted the family with the arrangements.
