Gary E. Oakes Sr.

Gary E. Oakes Sr., age 67, of Dunkirk, Ohio passed away at 11:14 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.

He was born in Phillipsburg, Montana February 14, 1951, to the late Gregory and Velma Tesch.

On December 31, 1980, Gary married Meryl Eleanor Rosander and she preceded him in death June 3, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Belle Duran and a brother, Bernie Oakes.

Gary is survived by his three sons, Joseph (Tara) Oakes, Richard (Amy) Oakes, and Gary (Hollie) Oakes; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (Michelle) Oakes and David Oakes; an “Adopted Son”, Travis (Ashley) Robinson and many nieces and nephews.

Gary had worked for many years in Montana as a miner. After moving to Ohio, he began working as a tow truck driver. Gary loved sports. He loved watching the Michigan Wolverines, Cleveland Browns, and most especially his boys when they played high school and semi-pro football. He was also a member of the Elks, and enjoyed working with wood and leather, drawing, and fishing

Per Gary’s request, his body was cremated and no public services will be observed.

The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
