George K. “Bud” “Hank” Herndon, 75, of West Liberty, Ohio and formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away at his residence Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 5:45 P.M. He was born in Woodsfield, Ohio September 13, 1936, to the late Hugh and Thelma Hill Herndon. On February 4, 1959 he married his wife of fifty three years, the former Patricia Mellott, and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Bryan of Gahanna, Ohio and Karen (Mike) Hickenbottom of West Liberty; a son, Kenneth (Tawnya) Herndon of Woodsfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Haleigh Hickenbottom, Ross Hickenbottom, Zac Bryan and Collin Bryan; two sisters, Barbara (Wilbur) Jeffers and Sara (Paul) Kraft, both of Woodsfield, Ohio; an “adopted son”, Jacob Vitt of West Liberty and several nieces and nephews. A sister and brother-in-law Mary (Dan) Ischy preceded him in death.
He retired from Ormet Aluminum Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio and most recently worked with Logan Lawn & Landscaping in West Liberty.
Bud enjoyed hunting, woodworking and collecting knives. He was a member of the National Pike Knife Club, the Kingscreek United Methodist Church, West Liberty Lion’s Club and was a former Green Township Trustee. He loved spending quality time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. His kind nature allowed him to immediately connect with people, thus he never met a stranger.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty with Pastor Dave Brown officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service, his body will be cremated.
