George L. Holycross, 90, of Bellefontaine, entered into his new heavenly home and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:30pm peacefully at his home.
George was born in North Lewisburg, Ohio, on September 5, 1934, to the late Virgil Lee Traul Holycross and Ruby Sadie (Reames) Holycross. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Gerald Holycross, Lee Holycross, Jr., and Carroll E. Holycross; two sisters: Mary Holycross Burgess and Annamae Holycross Tevis; and cousin Sharon Reames who resided with George for 27 years after her parents passed away.
George married Deanna L. Klingler on October 5, 1957, and she survives in Bellefontaine. He is also survived by two daughters: Debbie (Jeff Easton) Copas and Patricia (Mark) Brown; 4 grandchildren: Kevin Holycross, Doug Copas, Kyle (Celena) Brown, and Melissa (Josh) Klingelhofer; 10 great-grandchildren: Jordan Holycross, Evinn (Tyler) Ramos, Nate Copas, Jade Copas, Kaelan Copas, and Carson Copas, Drew Wilson, Esme’ Brown, Sofia Brown, and Grayson Griggs; a great-great-grandchild Izzy Ramos; a brother Fred Holycross; and sisters Jennie Mae Slade and Phyllis Butler.
George went to school in Allen Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and worked at National Extrusion for 47 years until he retired. George enjoyed spending time with family and friends, having cookouts, traveling, watching baseball and football games, and mowing yards up to the age of 85. In his younger years, he enjoyed roller derby at Indian Lake Rollarena.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jim and Mary Payton, and Melvin Tevis, for always helping our parents.
Pastor Mike Phillips will officiate George’s funeral on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11am at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
