Glenno Titus

Glenno Phillip Titus, 84, of Rushsylvania, Ohio, passed on to be with his Lord Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his home surrounded by family and loved ones. He succumbed after fighting a long and difficult battle against numerous internal ailments and injuries.

Glenno was the fifth child of the late Knowles and Winnie (Dixon) Titus. He was born October 4, 1925 in Logan County, Ohio. He was a graduate of Rushsylvania High School in 1943 and served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army, 104th infantry Regiment of the 26th Yankee Division and the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Rhineland and Central Europe, after being transported on the converted troop ship Queen Mary along with 15,000 troops.

Glenno was a member of the Rushsylvania United Presbyterian Church for most of his life and served as Elder for several years. He was a charter member of the Rushsylvania chapter of the Lions Club International and received their highest honor, The Melvin Jones Fellowship for humanitarian work. He served on the Rushcreek Township volunteer fire squad for twenty seven years. After being trained as an EMT and paramedic, he taught EMT classes for ten years at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. He retired from Mary Rutan Hospital where he worked in the emergency room.

On September 1, 1946 in Belle Center, Ohio, he married the love of his life, Olivia Chapman, also of Rushsylvania. They had seven children: Bill of South Vienna, Ohio, John (Bev) of St. Paris, Ohio, Steve (Cindy) of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Bob (Robin), Jana (Bobby) Walker, Rick (Kris) all of Rushsylvania and Jodi (George) Lewis of Tierra Verde, Florida, twenty two grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Olivia and all their children survive as well as his only sister, Berdena Taylor of Napoleon,Ohio, his brothers, Raymond of Bellefontaine and Leonard (Phyllis) of Springfield, Ohio, along with sister-in-law Everetta of Bellefontaine. Brothers Ronald, Russell, Malcolm, Warren and Daryl, grandson Gabriel, granddaughter Alicia and great-grandson Titus Warne all preceded him in death.

Glenno was very proud of his family. He loved large family gatherings and enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Music was always a strong influence in his life. After playing “by ear” for many years, he took piano lessons at age 54. He was a versatile and talented man, well respected and loved by those who knew him.

Rest in peace, dear Glenno. You have deserved your Heavenly rewards. Hasten Home. Many loved ones await you with open arms and we will meet again on that beautiful shore.

Calling hours will be Saturday, June 19, 2010, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Rev. Evan Wall and Rev. Russell Williams will conduct the funeral service at 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in the Rushsylvania Cemetery with Military Honors by the Logan County Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joshua, Zachery, Elijah, and Jeremy Titus, and James and Clinton Walker and the honoraries are Jacob Harshbarger and Kyle Titus.
