Gretchen E. “Beth” Jenkins, 46, of Danbury, Connecticut, and formerly of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009 at her Aunt’s home in Bumpass, Virginia. She was born September 12, 1962 in Bellefontaine, to Jerry Edwin and Frances M. Wood Jenkins and they survive in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Also surviving are 2 brothers, David L. (Laura) Jenkins of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and James A. (Mary Ellen) Jenkins of Wingdale, New York; her grandfather, Von D. Jenkins of Cridersville, Ohio; step-grandmother, Evelyn H. Wood of Columbus, Ohio; very special friend, Wesley A. Elm of Danbury; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; several Aunts and Uncles, friends and fellow teachers.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary E. Jenkins and Fred & Gretchen Wood.
A teacher, she taught English at New Milford Connecticut Middle School and High School for 18 years. She received her Master’s Degree from Western Connecticut State University, was a member of the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association, where she was a delegate for many years. She was active with the Theater Work’s in New Milford, Connecticut, and was an active member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield, Connecticut. She enjoyed basket weaving, needle point and was an avid reader.
Rev. Rob Fulton will conduct the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours are from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, April 10, 2009. Burial will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery. Memorial Services will be held in Danbury, Connecticut at a later date.
