Hans Adolf Schmitt, 79 of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Friday evening August 19, 2011 at the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was born April 21, 1932, the son of the late Adolf and Elise (Beckman) Schmitt in Mutterstadt, West Germany.
On November 16, 1974 he married Janet Masson in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives, along with three daughters: Nicole M. Schmitt of West Liberty, Elise S. Schmitt of Las Vegas, and Jana Weeks of West Liberty, one son Karl H. Schmitt of West Liberty; four grandchildren, Ashley, Dylan, and Emma Zerkle and Miranda McNutt, all of West Liberty; two brothers, Horst (Tia) Schmitt and Albert Schmitt of Germany and one sister, Waltrub (Heinrich) Zoller of Germany.
He came to the United States in 1957 to work for Carver International.
He was a Master Patternmaker and was the owner of the National Pattern & Foundry Engineering in California. He sold his business to Ross Aluminum Foundry in Sidney in 1992 and moved to West Liberty. He was currently working for the Piqua Emery Foundry. He invented and held the patent for the USGA approved Schmitty Putter. Earlier in his career he worked as an executive for the the Four Queens Casino and also worked on the Alaskan Pipeline.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 24, 2011, at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 2 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
