Harold E. Scherer, age 65, of Huntsville, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Lima, Ohio.
He was born in Sidney, Ohio July 20, 1948, to Eugene R. and Donna Mae (Wood) Scherer. Harry was preceded in death by his father Eugene, a brother Donald Scherer, and a special niece Micki James.
Harry married the former Nancy Pash May 11, 1998, in Sevierville, Tennessee and she survives in Huntsville. Harry is also survived by his mother, Donna Mae Scherer of Bellefontaine, Ohio; his children, Harold E. “Scott” (Denise Wren) Scherer of Jackson Center, Ohio, Maggie (fiancé Art Hower) Rorabough of DeGraff, Ohio, Larry Scherer of Bellefontaine and Brian Scherer of Bellefontaine; step-children, Angie Coleman of Columbus, Ohio and Tony Hanback of Florida; ten grandchildren, Stealth, Blazie, Kenny, Joshua, Jasin, Ashley, Justine, Cody, Courtney and Xavier; two step-grandchildren, Morganne and Logan; four great-grandchildren, Kadence, Kade, Lily Ann and Braylon, with one more on the way; a sister, Barbara (Gerald Bargdill) Scherer of Bellefontaine; a brother, Bill Scherer of Bellefontaine; a sister-in-law, Rita Scherer of Bellefontaine, and several nieces and nephews including a close, special niece Samantha Hook.
Harry was a heavy equipment operator at Cherokee Run Landfill and had received his twenty year pin. His grandfather started Shady Bowl Speedway and as with most of the family, Harry grew up there and spent many years working various jobs. He was a life member of the Indian Lake Moose and was a former member of the VFW, Eagles and American Legion. Harry was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Harry was a family-oriented, strong-willed and fun-loving man who doted on his family and grandchildren.
Pastor Max Jackson will officiate a graveside service Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 11 A.M. at the Huntsville Cemetery.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
