Harold K. “Kenny” Turner, 95, of DeGraff, passed away at 8:41 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Mary Rutan Hospital. He was born in DeGraff, Ohio on October 29, 1920 to the late Lawrence and Mary (Smith) Turner.
On March 14, 1946 Kenny married his wife of 69 years, Edith D. Smith and she preceded him in death on January 19, 2015.
Kenny is survived by his four children; Deborah (Royce) Day, Thomas (Susie) Turner, Kathryn (Michael) Drennen and Rebecca (G. Michael) Gill; 10 grandchildren, Jill (Eric) Schumann, Kimberly (Steven) Rohrer, Clinton (Lisa) Turner, Amanda (Jared) Jenkins, Jeffrey (Shandra) Day, Karen Day, Erica Drennen, Zachary Drennen, Sean Gill and Mackenzie Gill; nine great grandchildren, Jakob and Ellie Schumann, Kathryn, Lydia and Maggie Rohrer, Claire and Nicholas Jenkins, and Addelyn and Evan Day; a sister, Barbara Erhard; a brother, Robert Turner; sisters-in-law, Wanda Schmidt, Ruth Beard and Vonnie Smith; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
A 1938 graduate of DeGraff High School, Kenny served in the U.S. Army for four years during WWII, three of which were in the South Pacific. In recognition of his service, Kenny was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and 3 Bronze Stars. He was a proud American and very proud to have served his country.
Kenny was employed in the Logan County Auditor’s Office as a Weights and Measures Inspector for many years. He also loved farming. He was a longtime member of the Rum Creek United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 30 years. He was a member of Pleasant Grange and a charter member of the Riverside Lion’s Club. Kenny served as a Central Committeeman for Pleasant Township for 50 years and served as the Pleasant Township Fiscal Officer for 36 years. He was a member of the Republican Executive Branch Committee, the National and Ohio Shorthorn Association and the Logan County Cattleman’s Association.
Pastor Bud Allison will officiate a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street, DeGraff, Ohio where visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
