Harry B. Carnes Sr., 76, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Green Hills Retirement Community in West Liberty. He was born in Bellefontaine April 16, 1932, a son of the late Michael and Cecil Jacobs Carnes.
On December 9, 1951, he married the former Lois A. Ellis in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and she passed away August 11, 2004. He also was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include sons, Robert Michael (Lori) Carnes, Harry B. (Cindy) Carnes Jr. and Michael D. Long, all of Bellefontaine; daughters, Victoria Sue Plummer and Lori Ann (Jim) Hullinger, both of Bellefontaine, and Brenda L. (Michael) Mortimore of Aurora, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He worked for Miller Brothers in Archbold and was a heavy equipment operator for Northwood Stone & Asphalt for 23 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Eagles, VFW and AMVETS.
He loved spending time with his family and never met a stranger. He would talk to everyone.
Rev. Ron Irick conducts the funeral service at 7 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the funeral. Burial in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio, at a later date.
