On March 13, 2017, James W. Brackney took his last breath of life with his daughter Linda (Ron) Leininger by his side. They all said their earthly goodbyes and Jim joined his heavenly father. He was born April 19, 1925 in Waynesfield, Ohio to Clement Brackney and Mary Jane Pepple Brackney. He was a 1943 graduate from Jackson Center.
On November 3, 1952, Jim married Eula “Beav” Davis, who preceded him in death on May 5,1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ned; and a great grandchild.
Jim leaves behind two grandchildren, Matthew (Jennie) Leininger and Heather (Patrick) Westrick; and four great grandchildren, Katherine Leininger, Miranda, Andrew and Cole Westrick. He also leaves behind several neices and nephews.
On September 15, 1943, Jim was inducted into the U.S. Navy in Sidney, Ohio. He served on the U.S.S. Louisville as a Gunners Mate Third Class. He was honorably discharged March 20, 1946 at the USN Pier Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.
Jim was the owner and operator of the Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Jackson Center. He loved all animals and made sure they never went hungry. He was a lifetime member of the Jackson Center American Legion Scherer Post # 493 for 71 years, V.F.W. of Wapakoneta, and a lifetime member of the N.R.A.
For 87 years, he was a resident of Jackson Center. The last four and a half years were spent at Wapak Manor where he enjoyed the company of all who worked there as well as making many friends with those who lived there. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio. Full military rites will be presented by the Jackson Center American Legion Scherer Post #493 Honor Guard. Family and friends are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center.
