James Richard Gobin, 83, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at his home after a long battle with heart disease.
He was born October 23, 1929 in North Bergen Township in Hudson County New Jersey, a son of the late John Benjamin “Pat” Gobin and Pauline Elizabeth (Main) Gobin.
On December 30, 1950 in Ada, Ohio, he married the former Jacqueline Rae Lamb, his high school sweetheart and she preceded him in death January 2, 2008 after fifty seven years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Donald Gobin.
Survivors include children, Kathleen A. (Evan) Dixon, J. Randall (Patricia) Gobin, Timothy R. (Vicky) Gobin, Kelly E. (Joe) McKirahan; grandchildren, Jeremy (Holly) Dixon, Jason (Holly) Dixon, Sarah Dixon, Leah (Greg) Dunham, Rachel (Dane) Borchers, Lindsay Gobin, Kandice (Chad) Eagy, Hillary (Tony) Pfeffer, Meggan (Jake) Davis, Eric (Fiancé’ Anna Cruickshank) Gobin, Matthew McKirahan, Michael McKirahan; step-grandchildren, Michelle, Jaime, Staci and Alex McKirahan and families; great-grandchildren, Drake, Alexandra and Drew Dixon, Allison, Bailey and Whitney Dixon, Lucy and Isaac Cotter, Jackson Dunham, Landon Eagy, Oliver and Everett Pfeffer and Elliott Davis. His step-mother, Jeanette Gobin also survives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Jim graduated in 1948 from Ada High School where he played football. He completed two years at Ohio Northern University before enlisting in the United State Navy where he served as a medical corpsman. Upon returning from sea, Jim completed a Tool and Die Apprenticeship. He worked in this field until medical retirement, being brought to Bellefontaine while working for Westinghouse.
Jim enjoyed fishing, trap-shooting, knife collecting, whittling and genealogy. The grandchildren whom were a special joy to him, were all recipients of either a hand carved walking stick or a mouse! Dad, you will be missed!
Pastor Jeffory Willetts will conduct the 12 noon funeral service Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, Ohio with military rites by the Logan County Honor Guard.
