James Paul Hengsteler, age 91, of DeGraff, Ohio passed away at 11:35 A.M. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was born in Zanesfield, Ohio May 23, 1925, to the late Leroy A. and Florence Eva (Blue) Hengsteler.
On November 13, 1943, Jim married the former Betty Jane Valentine-Kost and she preceded him in death March 24, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dezmon Retterer; two brothers, William and Robert Hengsteler, and a nephew, John Hengsteler.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Joyce (John) Baker of Troy, Ohio; two grandsons, Curtis (April) Retterer of South Carolina and Christopher (Shannon) Retterer of Sidney, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Christian and Kirsten; a sister, Lina (Robert) Jackson of DeGraff, and several nieces and nephews.
A United States Navy WWII Veteran, Jim was a 1943 graduate of DeGraff High School. After returning from the service, he worked at the DeGraff Lumber Company as a carpenter for forty five years. He was also a member of the DeGraff United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Universal Home Health & Hospice Care and Logan Acres for the exceptional care they provided to Jim.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Floyd Lundy officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
The funeral arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff.
