James Hiser

James Merlin Hiser, 82, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Home.

He was born on January 29, 1932 in Fremont to the late Albert James and Doris Lenore (Miller) Hiser. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joellen Dee.

Jim married the former Sherrill Anne Clay on June 19, 1954 and she survives in Fostoria. He is also survived by sons, Scott Allen Hiser of Mt. Cory and Randall Lee Hiser of Fostoria; a granddaughter, Mallory Paige Hiser of Mt. Cory; a brother, Albert M. (Gayle) Hiser of Columbus; sisters, Marilyn Kay Carter of Fostoria and Karen Sue (Earl) Marshall of Alvada.

Jim was a veteran of the US Army having honorably served during the Korea War. For his efforts, he was awarded a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, Jim went to work for Fostoria Concrete Products and retired after 20 years as a truck driver. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Jim enjoyed wood-working, bird watching, listening to classical music – especially Beethoven and Mozart.

A fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, Jim was a loyal husband and father. He enjoyed camping with his sons and the vacations in Nova Scotia with the family in the early 1970’s. Special moments also included trips to Wisconsin, Arizona, New York, the Smoky Mountains and Virginia Beach.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
