James David Prater, 65, of rural West Liberty, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home.
Jim was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, on December 18, 1959, and raised by Earl Peters and the late Linda L. (Prater) Peters.
Jim is survived by his children: Adam Prater of West Liberty, Alexia Prater of West Liberty, Alivia Prater of Anniston, Alabama, April Johnson of West Liberty, and Ashley (Travis) Spriggs of North Lewisburg; a granddaughter Ava Prater; his father Earl Peters of West Liberty; step-sister Darla Summerlin of Tennessee; step-brothers: Ray Peters of Belle Center, and Rick Peters of Lakeland, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim worked as a forklift driver for 12 years, and also worked in maintenance at Mad River Mountain for several years. He loved to cook for his family, especially all-things-breakfast. Jim cherished the time spent watching cartoons with his granddaughter Ava. He was a hard worker, loving, caring person, who had a great sense of humor. Jim enjoyed mushroom hunting with his kids, often telling them to stay quiet so they didn’t scare the mushrooms away.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 2-4pm at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, where Jim’s funeral service will be held at 4pm.
EICHHOLTZ DARING & SANFORD FUNERAL HOME, West Liberty, is honored to serve the Prater family and encourages anyone to share a fond memory or message of condolence at www.edsfh.com
