James “Jim” I. Seeley, 80, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
He was born April 30, 1929 at the family farm near McMorran in Harrison Township, Ohio, the son of the late Perley Ray and Esther (Overholser) Seeley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Wayne Seeley.
On September 7, 1951, he married Harriet (Warye) Seeley in West Liberty, Ohio, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Seeley of Columbus, Ohio, and David (Glenna) Seeley of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Vanessa (Tim) Million of Hollywood, Florida; one brother, Lloyd (Eileen) Seeley of Lakeview, Ohio; a sister Lois Miller of Urbana, Ohio, and twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was a farmer and welder, and had worked for Carter Steel and Rockwell, then retiring from the Transportation Research Center as a mechanical technician. He was a member of the First Church of God in Bellefontaine, where he was a church trustee when the church on Brown Street was being built. He also was a Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop for nine years, and served on the Boy Scout Tecumseh Council for ten years. During this time with the Scouts, he took two groups to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. He also was a member of the Son-Shine Christian Fellowship Church in Lake Placid, Florida, where he and Harriet have been spending their winters. He enjoyed traveling, his family, and working in his barn.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 23, 2009, at the First Church of God in Bellefontaine, with Pastor C. J. Plogger and Pastor Ron Irick officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.
