James Russell “Jim” Sine, 87, of Zanesfield, passed away at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Heartland of Bellefontaine. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on May 23, 1928 to the late Marion Clay and Mabel Leah (Sutherland) Sine.
On March 16, 1956 Jim married the former Marilyn Joan “Pip” Hostetler in West Liberty, and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Lovell.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Debra (Robert “Bob”) Newland of Bellefontaine, Carol Sue (Steve) Thompson of Zanesfield, and Linda (Doug) Marquis of Bellefontaine; five grandchildren, Amanda (Andy) Hart, Erica Marquis, Brad Thompson, Megan Thompson and Cody Newland.
A self-employed heavy equipment operator, Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was very active in the community as a volunteer member of the Zanesfield / Tri-Valley Fire Department for 61 years, 40 years of which he served as Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Zanesfield United Methodist Church, East Liberty Lodge 247 F&AM, Mary Chapter No. 9 Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the American Legion Blue Jacket Post #599 for over 60 years.
Pastor Gene Phelps will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Tri-Valley Fire Department, 2568 Sandusky St. Zanesfield. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Tri-Valley Fire Department with a Masonic service at 5:30 pm. Burial will be in Zanesfield Cemetery in Zanesfield, Ohio with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
