Janet M. Nicely

Janet M. (Mikesell) Nicely, 81, of Lakeview, Ohio and Englewood, Florida, passed away, due to complications from surgery, at 12:33 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 24, 1937 to the late Vernie and Betty (Burt) Mikesell.

On June 27, 1960, Janet married Russell H. Nicely in Dayton, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2017. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by; a brother-in-law, Charlie Barcus; a niece, Linda Anderson; and two nephews, David Barcus and Dale Barcus.

Janet is survived by her son, Stephen (Catherine) Nicely of Lakeview; a sister, Nancy Barcus of Florida; three nieces, Chris Barcus, Kathy (Jerry) Kowalski, and Anne Barcus-Route; several great nieces and nephews; and her very special extended family, Mike & Sue Hammergren, Terri & Tim Lorenz, Rick & Susan Hammergren and their respective families.

A retired Physical Education teacher, Janet had taught at Stiver’s High School in Dayton and also substitute taught at Indian Lake Schools. She was honored by her peers in 2016 by being inducted into the Stiver’s Hall of Fame. Janet loved all sports, but most especially golf. She was a member of Prairie View Golf Club and recorded two holes-in-one during her lifetime. She was a member of the Englewood Shell Club and Indian Lake Eagles Auxiliary #3615. She also enjoyed gardening, birds, reading, and most especially the time she was able to spend with her family and extended family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

The arrangements are in care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
