Jenean Jackson

Biography

Jenean Jackson, 81, of DeGraff, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Richwood, Ohio on October 18, 1935 to the late Arthur and Verna (Heminger) Roush.

On June 2, 1952, Jenean married her husband of 64 years, Howard “Bud” Jackson, and he survives, along with their four children, Skip (Amy) Jackson of DeGraff, David (Jean) Jackson of Bellefontaine, Jeanie (Ron) Weiskittle and Diana (Chuck) Gamble, both of DeGraff; 12 grandchildren, Scott (Kari) Jackson, Gregg (Jinger) Jackson, Matthew (Ashtyn) Jackson, Michelle (Brian) Parsell, Debbie Weiskittle, Julie (Jeremy) Pequignot, Becky (Kyle) Lentz, Emily (Jerrod) Henry, Abby Harper, Emily (Dan) Jackson, Matthew and Natalie Smith; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Connie Myers; a brother, Arthur Roush; and many nieces and nephews, two of which they raised, Jennifer and Mike Hughes. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Deb (Kennel) Jackson; a sister, Sharon (Roush) Hughes; a brother-in-law, Junior Myers; a nephew Bob Myers; and a niece Judy Hughes.

Jenean moved to Logan County with her family as an infant and has been in the DeGraff community for 58 years, living in the farmhouse on top of Hilltop Farms. Jenean instilled the sense of community in the family as all but four of their descendants still live in Logan County. Together, she and her husband owned and operated Jackson Livestock for 16 years. She also assisted her husband in the family auction business for 47 years in which they volunteered their time endlessly to help others. She is a 50 year member of the Miami Grange and Gretna Brethren Church, Logan County Farm Bureau, Logan County Cattlemen Association and Ohio Harness Horseman Assn.

Jenean became very involved with the Riverside School District in 1960. Besides supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in academics, arts, and schools, the early 1970’s gave opportunity for her and her husband chaperoning junior class trips.

For several years, Jenean worked at DAB before becoming a staple at Riverside schools as a school bus driver for over 30 years. Anyone attending Riverside during 1960, 1970, 1980 or 1990’s would know her and always have a kind word unless they were unruly on the bus. Jenean served two terms on the Riverside Board of Education and was an Ohio Reads volunteer. Outside the school, Jenean worked in real estate, volunteered as a State Certified Paramedic for Riverside EMS and served as secretary for the National Association of Roush and Allied Family Reunion for 30 years. She was also a member of the DeGraff Garden Club and previous member of Rebekah Lodge of Middleburg. She was a visionary leader serving on the committee for the start of the DeGraff Country Fair. Last fall she and her husband were the Grand Marshalls of the DeGraff Country Fair.

Jenean’s first love was her love for God. She had a great love of family and always helping others. Her crown will be full of jewels. She loved to travel as she and Bud traveled the world. As so many know she loved to sew and was known for her sewing talents making many wedding dresses. She also loved the outside and loved to work on the farm and loved her flowers.

She was a great wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister and aunt.

The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street, DeGraff, Ohio. Pastor Richard Cryder will officiate a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22nd at the Gretna Brethren Church, 1564 Township Road 46 S., Bellefontaine, Ohio with visitation from 1 – 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
