Jerome “Jerry” Edward Bettinger, 78, of Zanesfield, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Duluth, Minnesota. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, May 7, 1931 to the late Jerome W. and Leona E. (Dues) Bettinger.
On June 3, 2001, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia Dorsey, whom he married on August 20, 1955 in Sidney, Ohio. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Rita Mae DeGrood.
Jerry is survived by his second wife, Georgeann McNeil McGinnis Bettinger, whom he married on April 27, 2002, in Springfield, Ohio. Also surviving are two sons, John (Cindy) Bettinger of Ridgeway, Ohio, and James (Laura) Bettinger of Zanesfield; three daughters, Cathy (Kevin) Bell , Mary (Don) Jaunzemis and Barbara (Jon) Snyder all of Zanesfield; seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a step-son, Gary (Deb) McGinnis of Springfield, Ohio; step-daughter, Cindy (Tom) Gastrich of Alaska; and a brother, Robert (Ruth) Bettinger of Apollo Beach, Florida.
A farmer, Jerry worked for Super Foods. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, and a life member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the First Assembly of God Chruch with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Family will receive friends starting at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the North Greenfield Cemetery in East Liberty, Ohio, following the service.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Gideon’s International P.O. Box 304 Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311 or to the missionaries that Jerry supported: Advancing Native Missions, Jack Rose-Missionary to Mexico, and Joshua Snyder, Missionary to India % Barbara Snyder 6633 County Road 2 Zanesfield, OH 43360.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine handled the arrangements.
