Jerry L. Porter

Jerry L. Porter, 84, of Columbus and formerly of Bellefontaine passed away peacefully at home December 27, 2017.

He was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on April 22, 1933, the son of the late RW/Pete and Hazel Porter.  His family settled in Bellefontaine where Jerry attended elementary and high school and he played football, basketball, track, and studied carpentry.

Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. Jerry worked construction all his life, retiring after 20+ years with Thomas and Marker.  He was a lifetime member of NRA and In Fisherman. He enjoyed football, cars, guns, and fishing. His family never had to call a repairman and they will miss him for the rest of their days.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Gene and Joe Porter, and brother-in-law, Ben Markins.

He is survived by his beloved wife Laraine Porter; three sons; John (Becky) Porter of Zanesfield, Terry (Susan) of Bellefontaine, OH, and Marc (Kelly) Jennings; sister Pam Patterson of FL; brother-in-law Philip (Kathy) Markins and sister-in-law’s Celeste Davis and Barb Markins; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Pastor Rick Riggs will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the Bellefontaine Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.  A reception will follow at the Middleburg United Methodist Church, 11824 State Route 287, Middleburg, OH 43336.

The family would like to wish a special thanks to Mt. Carmel Hospice for their care and kindness.

Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
