Joan Berry, 89, of Belle Center, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Joan was born in Kenton on March 5, 1935, to the late Lloyd Amsler and Mabel (Slagle) Amsler Haas.  She was also preceded in death by sons Dale Claybaugh, Greg Claybaugh, and Todd Berry; son-in-law Randy Clay; her first husband, Melvin Claybaugh; sisters: Elsie Dyer, Helen Wells, and Jean Hastings; and a brother Sonny Amsler.

Joan married William Berry on November 5, 1966, and he survives.  She is also survived by children:  Bill (Marsha) Berry of Cambridge, Ohio, Susan Penix of New Lebanon, Ohio, Karen (Kenny) May of Belle Center, and Pam (Donnie) Patton of Bellefontaine; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan retired at the age of 75 from the Benjamin Logan School District, where she was the head cook for the elementary school, after 30+ years of work.  She was a member of and enjoyed attending Kenton First Baptist Church.  Joan enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, shopping, and spending time with her family.  She never knew a stranger, and over the years she had helped a lot of people.

The family will hold a private graveside service in Norman Cemetery, Kenton, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Universal Home Health Hospice, 921 Rush Ave. Bellefontaine, OH  43311.
