Joe E. Deardurff, age 74, of Huntsville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening, April 1, 2014 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He was born in Logan County Ohio March 18, 1940, to the late Franklin E. and Berniece M. (McKee) Deardurff. Joe was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Deardurff in 2005.
Joe is survived by his wife, Ella Jane (Stokes) Deardurff, whom he married June 27, 1965, at the First Presbyterian Church in Belle Center, Ohio.He is also survived by his daughters, Marci (Matt) Skidmore and Jodi Deardurff both of Bellefontaine; a grandson, Andrew Skidmore; a sister, Joyce (Don) Smith of Cridersville, Ohio; brothers, Dick (Sue) Deardurff of Huntsville and Paul (Bev) Deardurff of Belle Center; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Viv) Stokes of Port Orange, Florida and Mike (Diane) Stokes of Fayetteville, New York; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Joe was a 1958 graduate of Stokes Local High School and served overseas with the United States Army from 1962-1964 as a medic. He worked for twenty two years at Airstream and then another twenty years at Honda of America in Marysville, Ohio before retiring in 2000. Joe was a former member of the Satan’s Angels Drum & Bugle Corp and was a member of the Hardin County Sheriff’s Posse for ten plus years. He was a member of the Bellefontaine American Legion, the Indian Lake Moose, and a thirty seven year member of the Kenton Coffee Cups.
Joe attended the Hopewell United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, working on puzzles, being outdoors and mowing his yard. He also cherished his time in the garage and loved his dog Misty. Spending time with his family and friends was a favorite for Joe.
Calling hours will be held at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Belle Center Friday, April 4, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where the funeral service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10 A.M. with Pastor William Zeller officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
