Joe A. Shoemaker, age 58, of Rushsylvania, Ohio passed away Wednesday evening February 21, 2018. Joe was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio December 21, 1959, to the late Bruce and Elizabeth (Foulk) Shoemaker. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Roberts.
Joe is survived by his wife Juanita (Cox) Shoemaker, whom he married December 21, 1981 in Rushsylvania. He is also survived by his children, Ashley (Ray) Jantz of Mississippi, Jeremy Shoemaker of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Amy Kensler of Greenville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Aden, Macie, Jake, Alyssa, and Abby; six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cayden, Brooklynn, Bayley, Bentley, and Bristol; siblings, Jimmy (Sharon) Roberts of Newark, Ohio, Margie Clark of Celina, Ohio, Bruce Shoemaker of Rushsylvania, Jer (Melody) Shoemaker of Kenton, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
A 1978 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School, Joe worked for thirty two years with Belletech in Bellefontaine. He was a member of the Blackwing Shooting Center in Delaware and Ohio Sports Fitness in Bellefontaine. Joe was very safety-minded, even if doing it the safe way would take longer. He enjoyed working in the garage, mowing the yard on his John Deere, target shooting, listening to his music, and taking naps – not necessarily in that order. Joe’s family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandkids. Always one to help other people, Joe would do anything for anybody and not think about it.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 5 P.M. at the Goshen Friends Church in Zanesfield, Ohio with Pastor Wayne Downing officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 P.M. prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be Monday, February 26 2018 at 11 A.M. at the Rushsylvania Cemetery.
The arrangements are under the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
