John William McAlexander

John McAlexander, age 70, of Katy, Texas, formerly of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 following a battle with cancer. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, December 5th, 1946 to the late Donald and Alice McAlexander of West Liberty.

In April 1968, John married the former Barbara Markin of Urbana. She survives him along with a son Brian (Heather) McAlexander of Katy, Texas; a daughter Amy (John) Knag and granddaughter Fiona Knag of New Boston, New Hampshire; a grandson, Tyler McAlexander of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter Avery Lucas of Katy, Texas; a brother Don (Nancy) McAlexander of Tipp City, Ohio and a niece Lisa McAlexander of Mt Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his brother James “Jim” McAlexander.

John graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1964, Urbana College in 1966, and Ohio
Northern University in 1968. He worked 40 years in the oil industry. After graduating from Ohio Northern, he went to work for Marathon Oil Company in Findlay. His career with Marathon was interrupted when he served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from Marathon Oil Company, he worked for British Petroleum, retiring in 2008 from British Petroleum’s Headquarters in London, England.

John was a great husband, brother, father and grandfather. You could depend on hearing from John if he didn’t hear from you, and when he was with you, you had his full attention. He was devoted to a healthy life style, and very much into physical fitness. Along with his brother, he climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa in 2008.

Pastor Bonita Ritchie will officiate the graveside service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2017, at the Fairview Cemetery at West Liberty, Ohio.

The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and
Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
