John H. Overholt, 76, of Urbana, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
He was born in Champaign County on July 18, 1938 to the late Clarence D. and Mabel F. (Hostetler) Overholt. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Overholt.
On November 25, 1961 he married the former Jeneane Frazier in Champaign County and she survives along with their children, Melinda (Doug) Mason and Jack (Jennifer) Overholt, both of Urbana; grandchildren, Tiffany Elliott and Ashley, Derrick and Katie Overholt; great grandchild, Corbin Clapsaddle; sisters, Irene Kauffman and Lois Overholt, both of West Liberty, Ann (Charles) Mellott of Springfield and Emily Overholt of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Sue Overholt of Buffalo Grove, IL; a brother, Galen (Tammy) Overholt of Bellefontaine; and many nieces and nephews.
John worked for Bonded Oil in Urbana as a dealer and later retired from NAPA in Urbana.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, John was a member of the Oak Gove Mennonite Church and the V.F.W. Post in Urbana. John coached the girls Mac-O-Chee Farm softball team. He enjoyed watching the Ohio Caverns Cavemen fast pitch softball team, going to garage sales, antiquing, riding on the pontoon at Indian Lake and traveling, especially the gulf at Pensacola, Fl. John was very proud of his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Eichholtz Daring and Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. A celebration of life will be held at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor’s Dick Barrett and Alex Dye officiating. A graveside service will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at 10:00 am prior to the service.
