John Ross


John Luther Ross, 68, of Longview Cove, Belle Center and formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 9, 2015. He was born in Marietta, Ohio on February 3, 1947, to the late Luther G. and Betty (June) Ross.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Frances (Francie) Scalise, their three children Todd (Caryn) Ross of Clarkston, MI, Jennifer (Joe) Naylor of West Chester, and Stephanie (Mark) Fissel of Bellefontaine, nine grandchildren Nicholas and Matthew Ross, Jake, Ben, and Kate Naylor, and Maxwell, Harrison, John, and Bennett Fissel, two sisters, Anne (Dr. William) Jacoby of Marietta and Nancy (Gregg) Wargo of Avon Lake and several nieces and nephews.

John was a 1965 graduate of Marietta High School and a 1969 graduate of Ohio University where he belonged to the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971 in Vietnam. After completing his service, he graduated in 1973 from The Ohio State University College of Law.

He began his career as an attorney for the law firm of Thompson Dunlap & Heydinger in Bellefontaine before opening his own practice. He then worked as the Bellefontaine City Prosecutor, and later resided on the bench at the Logan County Municipal Court where he served for 26 years before retiring in 2011.

John was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he taught 10th grade C.C.D. and served as a lector. He also was involved with many organizations including Adriel School, Order of Symposiarchs, Kiwanis, and the United Way. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of the family that he built with his wife. Spending time with his wife and children and playing with his grandchildren became his greatest joy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 328 E. Patterson Ave. Visitation will be on Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine. Burial will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
