John Jacob Vicario, 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at 9:20 A.M. Saturday, September, 17, 2011 at Heartland of Bellefontaine. John was the son of Tony and Perry Cira Vicario, born in Bellefontaine January 24, 1919, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a son, Jon Michael Vicario; two sisters, Ann Vicario Lombardo and Mary Virginia Miller; and one brother, Joseph Vicario, Sr.
On April 12, 1947, John married Maxine Wright of Byhalia, Ohio at the St. Patrick’s Church in Bellefontaine, and she survives. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lombardo Vicario of Bellefontaine and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was a graduate of Bellefontaine High School and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. John retired in 1979 from Conrail. He served in the United States Army during World War II John sang as a soloist and Cantor for many years at the St. Patrick’s Church. He also sang at funerals and weddings in other area churches. A member of Community Players, he sang locally for community functions and also for the USO in Dayton, Ohio with a local dance team after his Army discharge.
John was a lifetime member of the St. Patrick’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2011, with Father Patrick L. Sheridan officiating. Music and family greeting will start at 10:00 A.M. and will continue to the start of mass.
According to his wishes, John’s body is being cremated. There will be private interment in the Calvary Cemetery at a later date with military honors provided by the Logan County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Improvement Fund of St. Patrick’s Church, the Logan County Humane Society Feline Division or Universal Home Health and Hospice.
The funeral arrangements were handled by the staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
