John Ward

John W. Ward, 95, of Lakeview passed away at 4:15 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Mary Rutan Hospital. He was born in Lakeview, Ohio on September 10, 1919 to the late John and Henrietta (Bogart) Ward.

On July 20, 1947 he married Ruth Wuenschel, and she preceded him in death on July 19, 1996.

John is survived by his daughter, Nancy E. Ward of Naperville, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John William Ward and nine siblings.

A U.S. Navy WWII and Korean War veteran, John served as a crash firefighter at Glenview Naval Air Station. After his retirement from the military, he served 20 years with the Civil Service. John and Ruth lived in Waukegan, Illinois from 1959 to 1983. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and caring for his hummingbirds.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
