Jon Weeks

Jon David Weeks, 54, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at the Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI) Hospital after a yearlong battle with complications following a pancreas transplant that he received March 11, 2013.

He was born in Bellefontaine November 17, 1959, to Richard ‘Dick’ and Jane (Howard) Weeks who both survive in Bellefontaine.

On February 28, 1995, he married the former Sharman Kathleen Helzer, who survives him, along with their two sons, Erik Jon and Nicholas David Weeks, both at home; two brothers, Rick (Joanie) Weeks of Clarksville, Tennessee and Doug (Cindi) Weeks of Dublin, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Tamara (Galen) Overholt of Bellefontaine and his father-in-law, Lee (Phyllis) Helzer of Zanesville, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Penny Brugler of Bellefontaine and Amber (Jaryd) McGuire of Van Wert, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Shannon (Vanessa) Helzer of Kutztown, Pennsylvania and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jon loved his family and was a dedicated worker, working at the Belletech Corporation for nearly 28 years in the position of Senior Coordinator of Production. He especially loved watching his boys play sports and supporting them in all of their activities. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Jon always thought of others before himself, and as a final testimony of that, Jon donated his organs and tissues to research so that one day there may be a cure. His tissue and organ donations went to the IUPUI Transplant and Research Facility where Jon’s doctors described him as an ‘Enigma’. His donations will be medically researched to help find a cure for future patients who develop Graft vs. Host Disease after solid organ transplants.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with Gene Marine officiating. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.

The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
