Juanita Lou Whaley, 83, of Bellefontaine passed away Wednesday morning, December 31, 2014 at Kenton Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born in Logan County to Roy E. and Claribel (Jones) Byrd on May 2, 1931. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dean H. Newman whom she married on June 26, 1949 in Belle Center and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1990, her second husband Cary James Whaley, whom she married on May 14, 1983 in Bellefontaine and he died on November 28, 1997; son Bruce David Newman whom died on February 26, 1957; and sisters Judy Craig and Frances Byrd.
A 1949 graduate of Belle Center High School, Juanita attended the Belle Center Church of Christ and later the Bellefontaine First Lutheran Church. She worked as an assembler at Siemens and retired after 20 years. Juanita was also a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the AmVets Auxiliary. She adored and helped raise her great-grandson, Andrew Smith.
Juanita is survived by her children: Shirley Moller of Bellefontaine, R. Michael Newman of East Moline, Illinois and Ronald Newman of East Moline, Illinois; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Norma McMillen of Kenton, Mary Mulligan of Kenton and Helen Burke of Lima; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Visitation for Juanita will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine from 2-4pm. Pastor Cheryl Siegenthaler will officiate the funeral service on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11am at the funeral home, burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
