Kenneth Gail Henry, 90, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty, Ohio.
He was born November 15, 1921 in Bellefontaine, to the late James P. and Ada W. (Lane) Henry.
On November 6, 1951, he married Stella Ann Atwood in Richmond, Indiana and she preceded him in death November 23, 2002. Also preceding him in death were eight brothers, Wilbur, Guy, Herbert, Floyd, Merlin, Dalton, Alvin and Victor Henry; four sisters, Neva Henry, Clara Hemminger, Ruth Henry and Ethel Henry; and one grandchild, Dianne Long.
Surviving are his children, Rev. John M. (Debbie) Henry of Wichita, Kansas, Beverly D. (David) Nicholl of Bellefontaine and Kathy S. (Dr. Jeffrey) Godwin of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Joyce, Justin, Nick, Elisabeth, Matthew and Alexis; and eight great grandchildren, Gregory, Geoffrey, Garrett, Jace, Hayden, Oakley, Matthew and Jeffrey.
Kenneth worked for A.J. Miller and in 1983 he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He liked to help people get started in beekeeping. He enjoyed caring for orchards within the county, grafting trees and hunting.
A member of the First Church of God in Bellefontaine, Kenneth was a World War II Navy Veteran and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He sailed on the U.S.S. Nashville which was hit by a Japanese plane and he was the only survivor of his gun crew.
Rev. John Henry will officiate an 11:00 A.M. funeral service Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine, Ohio with military services by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
