Kenneth Nichols, Jr., 82, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed from this life Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Heartland Care Center in Bellefontaine at 3:45 P.M. He was born June 18, 1929, the son of the late Kenneth J. and Edna Marie (Ellis) Nichols.
He was the oldest of four children and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947. He worked for Zerbee's briefly and then for Copeland in Sidney, Ohio, where he remained until 1992 when he retired after forty five years of service.
He married Joann Sanders May 21, 1955, and she preceded him in death October 31, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Nichols.
He is survived by two daughters, Michele Nichols of Zanesfield, Ohio and Therese (Scott) Donnelly of Bellefontaine; a son, Christopher Nichols of Bellefontaine; two grandsons, Josef (Cavelyn) Donnelly of New York, New York and Christopher (Alicia) Donnelly, who is currently serving in the United States Navy stationed in San Diego, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, and spent a year in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He returned home in 1953, and resumed working for Copeland. He has been a member of the St. Mary of the Woods and the St. Patrick Catholic Churches most of his adult life. He worked hard all his life and found joy in his family. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Rev. Patrick Sheridan will celebrate a funeral mass at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point, Ohio. Calling hours are Monday, August 22, 2011 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Bellefontaine, with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
