Kenneth E. Regula, 91, of Jackson Center passed away Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney. He was born in Auglaize County on September 26, 1923 to the late Herbert E. and Ella L. (Gerber) Regula. He was also preceded in death by a son Terry L. Regula in 1974, sister and brother-in-law Grace and Jake Zimpfer, brother and sister-in-law Edison and Helen Regula, step-brother and sister-in-law John and June Davis, Jr., step-father John Davis, brothers-in–law Donald (Jean) Steenrod, Robert Steenrod and Dick Burch, and sister-in-law Carol Steenrod.
Kenny married the former Sarah L. Steenrod on January 17, 1947 in Jackson Center and she survives in Jackson Center. He is also survived by children: Rita (Don) Ware, Thomas (Judy) Regula and Michael (Joyce) Regula, all of Jackson Center; 8 grandchildren: Jason Ware, Robyn (Mike) Sturgeon, Joshua (Amy) Ware, Christopher (Amber) Regula, Mark (Tracey) Regula, Julie (Darrel) Klopfenstein, Brian (Leslie) Regula and Michelle (Patrick) Shuff ; 15 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Kaden and Trey Ware, Sarah and Jacob Ware, Katelyn and Samantha Sturgeon, Emma and Abigail Regula, Marcey and Angela Regula, Macy and Carter Klopfenstein, Cason and Mia Regula; sisters-in-law Janice Burch of Jackson Center and Naomi (Herbert) Wildermuth of Sidney; brothers-in-law Jerry (Barb) Steenrod of Holland, Ohio and Larry (Jean) Steenrod of Knoxville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenny was a 1941 graduate of Jackson Center High School, following graduation he joined the Army Air Corps and served during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines as a teletype operator. He retired as a machinist in 1987 after working 40 years at Monarch Machine Tool. Kenny was a volunteer with the Jackson Center Fire Department, member of the American Legion Shearer Post #493, and the Sidney VFW and AmVets.
Kenny enjoyed spending summer weekends at the family cottage on Indian Lake with his family and friends. He also enjoyed several winters in Punta Gorda, Florida with his wife and their Airstream. Kenny loved cutting wood for family and friends, he owned a chainsaw for nearly 70 years. As proprietor of Kenny’s Bike Shop, Kenny spent many years repairing and selling bikes.
Visitation for Kenny will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, Jackson Center, from 4-7pm. Pastor Kent Hollis will officiate the funeral service on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10am at the church. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson with military honors provided by the Jackson Center American Legion.
