Larry James Cooper, 72, of Russells Point passed away Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016 at his home. He was born in Bellefontaine on July 5, 1944 to the late Kenneth Clyde and Lou Leona (Mattox) Cooper.
A 1962 graduate of Indian Lake High School, Larry joined the US Army and was a tank commander stationed in Germany during the Viet Nam War. He worked in the family business, Cooper and Sons Excavating, and also at TRC. Larry then went to work for Mobile Instrument Service & Repair where he was a territory manager based in Louisiana and retired after 18 years of work. Upon retirement, Kathy and Larry lived in Beverly Hills, Florida for 14 years and he was a member of Inverness First United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially Ohio State, Louisiana State University and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Larry was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church.
Larry married the former Kathy A. Gillette on February 24, 1995 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and she survives in Russells Point. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law Travis and Laura Cooper and their family in Belle Center; siblings: Phil (Paulette) Cooper of Inglis, Florida, Jane (Mick) Reed of Huntsville, Tom (Sharen) Cooper of Huntsville and Deb (Greg) Wallace of Huntsville; brothers-in-law: David Gillette of Dillsboro, Indiana and Rick (Julie) Gillette of Lake Orion, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service, with casual attire, will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11am at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
