Lawrence E. “Preacher” Richey, age 80, of Walker St. in Bellefontaine, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 9, 2014 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine.
He was born in Bellefontaine November 5 1933, a son of the late Phenon Geneva (Mabra) and Stanley Emerson Richey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack C. Richey and a nephew, Stanley Richey,
On February 12, 1969, in married the former Madeline Johnson in Bellefontaine and she survives at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine. Also surviving is a son, Corey Richey of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Tammy Richey of Hilliard, Ohio; a grandson, Ashten Richey of Bellefontaine; a soon-to-be great-grandson, Xander Richey; an aunt, Nina Williams of Bellefontaine; a niece, Kathleen Richey-Walton of Decatur, Georgia, and a host of other nieces and nephews.
“Preacher” retired from the Metropolitan Housing Authority in Bellefontaine. He was in the United States Army from December 6, 1955 and was honorably discharged October 3, 1957. He was Private 1st Class and received a Good Conduct Metal. An avid bowler, “Preacher” loved to go fishing at Indian Lake. He was a member of the Grace AME Church.
Calling hours will be held for “Preacher” Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine from 5 to 8 P.M. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio with Pastors Frank McCullough and Settle Townsend officiating.
