Leo Heminger

Leo Heminger, age 84, of West Liberty, Ohio passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 in his home.

He was born December 5, 1932 in Zanesfield, Ohio to the late Harry Benjamin and Leatha (Shibler) Heminger.  He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert (Carolyn), Don, Howard (Esther Mae) Heminger, and his sisters, Verna Mae (Art) Roush, Martha Norviel.

He married Donna Mae (King) Heminger September 14, 1968, and she survives in West Liberty after almost forty nine years of marriage.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, JoAnn Heminger of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a brother, Herman (Jimmy) Heminger of Boyce, Louisiana (97 years old); several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a special nephew, Donald Lynn Heminger and special niece, Becky Alig and a brother-in-law, Robert King of Bellefontaine.

Leo worked for D.A.B. in Bellefontaine for sixteen years before moving to Florida in 1970, where he owned his own construction business for twenty three years.  He did home remodeling and was a cabinet maker, carpenter, and contractor.  He loved to travel in his RV and enjoyed mushroom hunting.  He was a gifted person of carpentry as well as a guitar player where he played in the country gospel band, “Hemmi and the Boys”.  They played for twelve years traveling to different area retirement homes.

Leo also worked for J.C. Penny and Consolidated Care, working in their maintenance departments.  He returned to Ohio from Florida in 1992 and completely remodeled their home and lived there for fifteen years.  He then moved and retired to Green Hills Apartments and had been there for ten years.  Leo liked bus trips where they traveled the countryside and made many friends.

Leo and Donna worked and did everything together including walking, shopping, vacationing. They were one together, where you would see Leo, you would see Donna.

The family would like to thank all of the residents of Green Hills Apartments and Homes, as they were always there for Leo and Donna and made them feel so blessed with friends.

Pastor Ken Neighoff will officiate a graveside service at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.

The staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty assisted the family with the arrangements.
