Lewis Fredrick Alspaugh, 89, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, September 26, 2013 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine with his daughter Melody at his side.
He was born in Lakeview, Ohio December 12, 1923, to the late Hollis Kenneth and Opal Marie (Reed) Alspaugh. He married Barbara L. Achor in Lakeview July 19, 1947, and she preceded him in death June 11, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice Miller McGee, Shirley Eastom and Patricia “Shug” Mille and his brothers, Ed Shoffner, Ronald “Buck” Shoffner and Glenn Shoffner.
Lewis is survived by his children, Melody Sue (Sonny) Mallory of Martinsville, Indiana and Lewis Brandon “Lou Ball” Alspaugh of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Angela Leann (Jerold) Stiegman, Lewis (Lisa) Mallory and Hillis Alfred “Al” Mallory III; three great-grandchildren, Codi Hancock, Justin Stiegman and Austin Stiegman; a brother, Melvin “Gene” (Delores) Shoffner of Rancho Cordova, California and numerous nieces and nephews including Debra (Alvin) Warner, who provided care and assistance prior to Uncle Lew’s passing.
Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II, where he survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was a longtime barber in New Hampshire and Lakeview and retired in 1987 from Porters. Lewis enjoyed painting, jewelry making, mushroom hunting and he loved fishing.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date at the Harrod Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
