Lois Elaine (Charboneau) Boy, 83, of Bellefontaine passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 15, 1931, the daughter of the late Harold and Olga (Neumann) Charboneau. On January 31, 1953 she married Edwin W. Boy of Toledo, Ohio and former Superintendent of Bellefontaine City Schools. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, James Bela Boy on May 6, 2012.
She is survived by four children: Dr. Edwin H. (DeDe) Boy, Linda (Rick) Hauck , and Bill (Amy) Boy, all of Bellefontaine, and Gary (Beth) Boy of Gahanna, brother-in-law: Jerry (Rosemary) Boy of Tucson, AZ, and step-sister: Wilma Yoakum of Monroe Michigan. She was devoted to her grandchildren: Jason Boy, Jennifer (Jacob) Estes, Andrew (Carmen) Boy, Douglas (Irina) Boy, Lindsay (Brad) Jackson, Nate (Hannah) Hauck, Michael (Deborah) Boy, Sara (James) Wilkus, Charlotte and Alexandria Boy, Hannah, Daniel, Jacob, Ruth, Marjorie, and Brody Boy, and 13 great grandchildren.
She graduated from Monroe High School in 1949 and St. Luke’s Hospital, School of Nursing in 1952. She practiced nursing in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Iowa. In 1969, she moved to Bellefontaine with her husband and four children. She continued her nursing career at Mary Rutan Hospital ICCU under Harry Graber, M.D. She later took the Diversified Health Occupations teaching position with Ohio Hi Point JVS in 1979. While there, she coordinated the annual student Red Cross Blood Drive and the area’s Special Olympic Bowling Tournament. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo in 1985. She retired in 1991.
Lois was a member of the Grace Chapel Church in West Liberty where she belonged to the Ladies Sunday School Class, Primetimers, and volunteered with Vacation Bible School. She sincerely loved the Lord, family, church family and friends. She has been a member of the Bellefontaine Women’s Club, LaCultura and Exchange Club of Bellefontaine, the Logan County Friendly Senior Center and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and had served on the Mary Rutan Hospital Board of Directors.
She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sports and activities when she was able, following The Ohio State University football and basketball teams as well as listening to books on tape provided by the Knowlton Library.
Pastor Josh Gelatt will officiate a memorial service at 5:00 PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Grace Chapel, 500 Linden St. West Liberty, Ohio 43357. Calling hours will be two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
